“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” But we practice catch and release!
Fishing. One of my favorite hobbies. The hardest part of fishing is the fact that it can take you from feeling super great to feeling really low. I still love it though. It’s a challenge every time you go out on whatever body of water you are on. You have to figure the fish out that day on that lake. Just like anything else, it’s a craft. When you catch a big fish, you get such an adrenaline rush. It’s an amazing feeling. Some days are a grind and all it takes is that one good fish to turn it all around. I think we can relate that to life as well.
When you put work into something, you expect results. The fruit of your labor. When you do not get results, it can put you down emotionally. There is no worse feeling than putting your time and dedication into something for nothing. I feel this is why a lot of people stop pursing a goal. They get discourage. Its human nature. We are all afraid of failure. I can relate to this. I have had so many ideas and goals in life because as soon as I start them, I get discouraged from something negatively affecting those goals. Fishing has taught me to never give up. Always keep on keeping on. Go out the next day and learn from your mistakes from the day before.
When it comes to fishing it is all about how you use your tools. Which bait to throw, which rod to use, what size line to go with all that. How slow or how fast you work your bait. I cannot tell you how many hours I have put out on the water and not gotten one single bite. But I will head back out the next day and do it all over again. This is why I find it difficult to explain to people who ask me what I did that day. It is all about the amount of time you put out on the water. It can really teach you to be persistent and to never give up. If you do not catch anything, it is still a way to relieve stress, get outdoors, and you always find one positive thing out of the days experience.
