Fulfillment. Would you rather get paid a million dollars a month doing a job you hate or a lot less doing a job you love? They say that if you do a job you love, you won’t work a day in your life. Although some individuals just flat out don’t get to choose. Sometimes you need to deal with what life has given you and make the best of it. Just always remember that if you start to think about how bad you have it, someone else out there is in a worse position than you are. Be thankful for what you have and where you are. Even if it is the simple things in life.
I feel as if no one reads anymore with the spread of technology. Everything is visual or audio based. Another reason I started this podcast. Although, reading is so beneficial and who doesn’t love a good story? I try to read every night before going to bed. Since I am a fan of Dungeons and Dragons, I tend to favor the fantasy genre. I will, however, enjoy a good book about ancient civilizations and the mysteries behind them.
Taming the American Horse is a book a good friend of mine wrote and published. What a great story. It is about a man who is working a corporate nine to five job and is unhappy with his life. After meeting with an old friend of his, who convinces him to leave everything behind and start fresh, he inherits an old ’94 Harley Davidson Fat Boy. Karl then takes it and rides out west where a series of events unfold and ultimately change his entire life. After reading this book, I do not believe everyone is always 100% happy with where they are in life. That is unless, of course, you are a Jeff Bezos. There is a little bit of Karl in all of us to a certain degree. The feeling of wanting to escape from everything and disappear. A lot of people cannot do this because of obligations and responsibilities. I, for one, have a family and a son I need to raise. Once you have kids, it is not about you anymore. This is not my life to live anymore because my son needs me, and I will always be there for him until the day I die.
Lately I have had the urge to write a book. I want to write a fantasy novel or something along those lines, but I do not know where to begin. Stories have always fascinated me with how someone can imagine and put together a whole other world just inside their heads. Game of Thrones for example. It is one of my all-time favorite shows, even though the last season sucked. After thinking about my book idea, I remembered my friend Sean is an author. I reached out to see if he would be able to share his experience with us and he agreed.
In this episode, we talk to Sean Lahey. Sean is an insurance agent, an author, and my friend. We talk about and break down his book, Taming the American Horse. We also discuss the challenges and the process of writing a book as well as some of the tribulations he has faced in his life. I love breaking down people’s creative processes. It all works out, since I have been wanting to write a book. I thought I would ask someone who has already done it. Thank you for listening! Hope you enjoyed. Thanks again Sean.
“That day, four o’clock in the afternoon became his longest hour. Four would become the witching hour for him for that moment on. Anything at four or with four would be avoided. He vowed to reject all things with that evil number in it. Thank God beer comes in sixes.”
